Landfill biomethane
Solution
Country
Europe
Italy
The recovery and valorization of landfill gas has a twofold environmental benefit: the greenhouse and polluting effect of the gas is drastically reduced, and the treated gas is valorized through injection into methane distribution networks.
Composition of landfill gas
The gas generated by anaerobic digestion from landfills contains about 50 percent methane, as well as carbon dioxide and various contaminant gases.
Purification process
Through purification, a high-quality methane stream (about 99 percent) can be obtained, ready for feeding into the grid or transportation via Virtual Pipeline.
Normative reference
In Italy, landfill gas valorization has been regulated by Decree 18/03/2018. Similar legislation is in place in other countries of the European Union.
Project Requirements
SAFE provided a compression system to produce 560 Nm3/hour of biomethane from process to gas grid conditions.
Turnkey compact solution: Consisting of a SAFE ST series compressor andcontrol unit packaged in a metal container certified for the Italian market “Grade 1 Equivalence”.
Efficient and flexible integrated solution: The compression module is fully integrated with the SCADA upgrade system (Modbus protocol).
The control is designed to frequency adjust compressor speed (VFD) and recirculation in order to efficiently deliver gas flow by adapting to upstream process conditions and downstream gas network requirements.
Custom-designed: Compressor and package selection are designed to meet not only process parameters, but alsospace optimization along withlowering both investment(CAPEX) and operating(OPEX) costs on the Customer side.
