Hydrogen-powered school bus refueling station

Compact, efficient, sustainable

Solution

Hydrogen

Country

Europe

Italy

The project in question was commissioned by the NRC with the goal of developing the first hydrogen refueling station for the school bus fleet by eliminating CO2 emissions and greenhouse gases in general from the fleet in the area.

All of this was made possible by the presence of solar panels capable of “capturing” the solar energy needed to self-produce the hydrogen and feed the potential overproduction back into the grid.

Compact

As it is housed within a single 12-meter, reinforced concrete package within which the entire system, from generation to storage, including the electrical control and command panel was installed.

Flexible and efficient

Capable of generating, compressing, storing and distributing hydrogen.
The TDH85 Hydro Mechanical Compression Unit, coupled with a 5.5 kW electric motor, is top-in-class in efficiency and flexibility: the wide pressure range (4 to 450 bar) in which it operates, the low number of cycles and the very low energy consumption result in low total operating consumption over the entire life cycle of the solution.

Green

The distance piece at atmospheric pressure and the two sets of seals on the gas and oil sides ensure that the gas handled is pure, without any contamination

Project Requirements

Suction pressure (bar) 6
Delivery pressure (bar) 360
Maximum flow rate (@9bar) Scm/h 9

We provided a complete compression solution of:

  • Electrolyzer
  • Selected compression unit, TDE/ series.
  • Storage units
  • Dispenser to supply the school bus fleet
