SAFE S.p.A. signs an agreement with Agrobiofert S.r.l. for the supply of two hydrogen compressors for the H2 Farm project in Sicily.

SAFE S.p.A., a leading company in the distribution and compression of natural gas, biomethane and hydrogen, enthusiastically announces the signing of an agreement with Agrobiofert S.r.l., a Sicilian agricultural company known for adopting sustainable solutions for typical local crops, such as citrus fruits, cereals and fruit and vegetables.
The agreement includes the supply of a 30-foot cabin, containing two high-efficiency hydraulic compressors that with 3 combined compression stages allow us to reach a pressure of 450 bar. The solution, designed and produced entirely in Italy, also includes logic panels, controls and cooling systems. Thanks to its duplex configuration, the system guarantees operational continuity: each compressor is able to operate independently, minimizing the risk of system downtime.
Furthermore, the hydraulic compressors allow the quantity of hydrogen to be modulated without the need to use inverters, using their own hydraulic circuit, providing greater efficiency and operational simplicity.
These compressors will optimize the management of hydrogen produced in the H2 Farm project, an integral part of the Sicilian Hydrogen Valley in Priolo Gargallo (Syracuse).
The project, financed by PNRR funds and promoted by the Sicily Region, aims to build a 2.5 MW plant for the production of green hydrogen powered by photovoltaic energy, regenerating a disused industrial area.

SAFE compressors will enable the storage and distribution of hydrogen, contributing to the decarbonization of Agrobiofert’s operations and improving the plant’s energy efficiency. This agreement, which follows the successful collaboration with the Port of Kleipedia in Lithuania, demonstrates how agriculture can also consider hydrogen as a concrete solution for decarbonization and long-term sustainability.

The compressors are scheduled for delivery in late summer 2025, in line with the start-up of the H2 Farm plant.
