HGV STATION
Introduction:
⠀⠀⠀
Compressed natural gas for the automotive sector is an alternative fuel for transport, making a major contribution to reduction of pollution produced primarily by transport vehicles and HGVs, which contribute around 25% of total CO2 emissions within the transport sector. The UK is an excellent example of environmental protection in the transport market through the creation of a network of CNG stations for refuelling HGVs that has produced a dual benefit:
- An overall reduction in CO2 of 84%
- An economic saving of more than 40% compared to the use of traditional fuels

Customer request:
Daily refuelling capacity | more than 750 HGVs |
Simultaneous refuelling capacity | 12 HGVs |
Advantages and features of the SAFE solution:
SAFE contributed to the construction of one of the largest CNG stations for the refuelling of HGVs in England. An integrated, high performance, flexible and compact solution that guarantees: a daily refuelling capacity of 800 units and a simultaneous refuelling capacity of 12 units.
SAFE supplied 3 soundproof and weatherproof Microbox M10 modules inside which a double compression train was installed, consisting of two high performance SW compressors, capable of operating over a wide range of suction pressures, coupled directly to electric motors.
- The first compression train, consisting of an SW compressor, compresses the gas from 1 barG to 7 barG, reaching a maximum flow rate of 1,460 Sm3/hour.
- The second compression train consists of an SW compressor that compresses the gas from 7 barG to 300 barG, reaching a maximum flow rate of 1,495 Sm3/hour.
A fully reliable solution: a blow-down system with a capacity of 80 litres and a maximum refuelling pressure of 68 barG ensures the correct operation of the compressor unit. In addition, the priority and safety panel with 3 lines plus a direct one, ensures fast and continuous refuelling of the vehicles.
