HYDROGEN

AN ENERGY CARRIER FOR DECARBONISATION

Hydrogen is an energy carrier, not an energy source: hydrogen is not found as a free molecule in nature (where it is, however, abundant bound to other elements) but it can be produced from different energy sources and then transported, distributed and used in many sectors.

Hydrogen as an energy carrier is a potential tool for accelerating the fight against climate change, not only by boosting the development of renewable energy sources, but also by extending de-carbonisation to sectors that have so far been largely excluded, such as industrial processes and long-distance transport, sectors in which SAFE operates.
Transport including HGVs and long-distance vehicles
Heating for buildings
Production of high quality heat for industry and steel
As a raw material for the production of fertilizers, chemical compounds and refining.

2050 VISION

WHY INVEST IN HYDROGEN

24% of final
energy demand
820 billion in annual sales (hydrogen and equipment)
560M tons of CO2 abatement per year
15% reduction in local emissions in relation to road transport

The supply of hydrogen to the industrial market is now an important global activity. The demand for hydrogen, which has more than tripled since 1975, continues to increase, reaching about 70 million tons per year (MtH2/yr). Today’s growing interest in hydrogen as a clean energy source is based on these fundamental factors:

  • It can be easily produced on an industrial scale

  • It has a high energy content per unit of mass

  • It is a light, storable, reactive gas

  • Can be used without direct emissions of atmospheric pollutants or greenhouse gases

  • It can be obtained from a diverse range of low-carbon energy sources

SAFE, A KEY PLAYER IN A GLOBAL CHALLENGE

It is in the DNA of the Bologna-based company to implement new technologies for the energy transition, fostering a far-sighted vision that has always allowed it to be ahead of its time. Therefore SAFE is preparing to launch hydrogen-related technologies on the market. The goal is to develop solutions suitable for the complex handling of this gas, useful for both the transport sector and for grid injection. SAFE is now facing a crucial test to demonstrate that the drivers of its growth have always been the pursuit of innovation and product quality. What is at stake is an energy revolution, which will create value not only for Customers and business partners, but for the entire planet.

SAFE, PARTNER OF LANDIRENZO IN THE ENERGY TRANSITION

Contributing to filling station technology makes SAFE an essential partner for the Landi Renzo Group, a partnership working towards green mobility. A synergy linked by specific values: social responsibility, eco-friendly mobility and technological quality. SAFE has been dealing with gas since its foundation. It is naturally ready for the transition, and hydrogen is undoubtedly the energy source of the future. Together they will develop a new series of components for hydrogen, thanks to the research, development and innovation capacity of both players.
